Mobile phones of the future – Main trends

Every January in Las Vegas, the world famous CES Consumer Electronics Show reveals new technology trends in today’s market.

The following trends were introduced two years ago. Since then, many of them have hit the market:

• Projection – imagine showing a video from your mobile in a business meeting.

• Discontinuation of the desktop computer: This big, bulky dinosaur is losing popularity as high-powered laptops, notebooks, and portable tablets take its place.

• Mobile cloud: storage options and accessibility.

• 4G/LTE – LTE is a new standard for mobile communications and heavily promoted by T-Mobile. 4G is the fourth generation, an improvement over 3G.

• Long-lasting batteries: Short battery life means many smartphone users carry the charger with them. Look at the Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Droid.

• Environmentally friendly: iPhone and Samsung Evergreen use fossil fuels. Make sure you responsibly dispose of your current mobile phone when it has expired.

trends 2013

Bigger phones with an easier viewing screen. The Samsung Galaxy and Huawei Mate can be called phablets, or a phone-tablet hybrid. The Mate’s screen dimensions are actually 6.1 inches, gargantuan compared to the tiny window screens on old mobile phones that were introduced twenty years ago.

Better operating systems are required to support the many superhero apps and options on today’s tiny mini laptops.

Higher screen resolutions, as introduced by Apple’s iPad 3 in March 2012. The tall retina display aims to expand the theme to the point where you don’t need reading glasses to use your computer. Let the user decide for him.

multitask

The Blackberry 10 provides a multitasking system for technology and business planning. A new trend has come to the forefront. Multitasking has been replaced by Hyper Tasking. That means constant contact with one’s cell phone. About 70% of users can’t go an hour without checking their phone, and every empty moment needs to be filled with an online game, reading a Kindle book or checking email – dead air is simply not allowed.

Online Public Libraries

In Austria, by scanning a yellow sticker, users can download literary classics on mobile. Where are the books? Why, up in the clouds, somewhere…

Free Airtime Gifts

As a thank you, several Third World countries presented survey participants with free airtime to check email, Facebook, Twitter, and just surf.

self-destructive photographs

Snap chat has an old idea whose time has come. Who hasn’t heard “this tape will self-destruct in ten seconds”? Mission Impossible: Instant Chat lets you take candid photos that self-destruct shortly after. They are good for sharing a moment without cluttering the hard drive.

Sony Xperia Z is the first phone with built-in waterproof technology. In fact, it is waterproof. That means if it gets splashed, the phone won’t turn into a pillar of salt, but it’s not designed for swimming.

By looking at what consumers use today, it’s easy to predict the future of mobile telecommunications products and services.
