Playing like the Greeks in Roma Total War

By its name, you would think that playing as the Romans is the only thing you can do in this unique PC game, Rome: Total War.

However, there are many other factions that you can play with as well. This includes the Germans, Gauls, British, Macedonians, and Greeks. This article will discuss how the Greek faction develops and what is the best strategy to win. Getting started will be a bit faster than other factions, because you will control a very lucrative trade route around the Mediterranean, which will make you take giant steps. Your first goal should be to take control of at least two or three nearby cities, preferably on the ocean, as they will be more lucrative.

Once you do, fortify your cities with the right Greek soldiers and armies and focus on making trade deals with other cultures. This won’t last long before the ever so powerful Brutii faction of the Romans comes and tries to take over their cities. By this time, you should have a good financial base and be able to create many units of Spartans, Greek soldiers, and specialized cavalry. When the Romans arrive, focus on repelling rather than untap and gain ground. You can do it on the eastern front.

Playing as the Greeks is also fun due to the types of troops you can control. They have a ton of spear infantrymen who are very effective against cavalry and infantrymen alike. His armor and bibs are minimal. They have greaves, a nice round white or gold shield, a long spear and quality greek helmets. You can zoom down on the battlefield to see in detail the various parts of his armor and the attractions of the battle. It’s a lot of fun watching them take down enemy soldiers with their impenetrable wall of spears.
