Primary personal protective equipment and safety garments

Personal protective equipment is generally defined as equipment that includes clothing that is intended to be worn or used by a worker in order to ensure their safety against occupational hazards. Below are some of the basic equipments that are widely used by people associated with various professions:

1. Safety clothing

When it comes to job safety, garments play a key role in almost every profession. People who have to perform in hazardous work environments wear clothing to protect against dirt, chemicals, and a host of other hazards. A jumpsuit is a good example of protective clothing that protects a worker’s body from hazardous substances such as oil, water, dirt, welding sparks, etc.

Coveralls are manufactured for a number of industries including welding, construction, chemical, and residential services. For example, nomex or fire resistant coveralls are designed for protection against high temperatures. High visibility clothing, weather clothing, bib pants, coats, and parkas are some of the common types of occupational safety clothing.

2. Helmet

The head is a sensitive part of the human body. Head injuries are the leading cause of occupational deaths. Helmets are common safety equipment used to protect the head from falling objects. Construction workers cannot think of working safely without wearing durable hard hats. Helmets, shock caps and protectors are also used to ensure head safety.

3. Safety shoes

Workers in different occupations have worn safety shoes for centuries. Steel-toed boots are a commonly used item that workers prefer for their ability to withstand heavy blows and other potential injuries.

4. Glasses

The eyes are the most delicate and sensitive part of the human body. Even a tiny object can seriously damage our eyes. Professions like welding and handling chemicals demand strong eye protection. Eye shields, face shields, and visors are also important eye protection tools.

5. Safety harness

In some professions, operators have to work on elevated surfaces that are not easily accessible. To prevent a fall from high points, the safety harness is used to ensure the safety of workers. Lifeline, wrist and elbow support, and back support are also useful safety equipment.

Most workplaces establish appropriate dress codes for workers in order to avoid health hazards and improve safety standards. As a freelancer, you must not undermine the importance of safety clothing and equipment. Carefully assess all potential hazards present in your workplace and find suitable work clothing to handle those hazards safely.
