The 4 main types of parenting (what is your parenting style?)
No two sets of parents are the same. Everyone has different views on discipline and a different set of values that they want to instill in their children. But although they have a different style, parents have the same goal: to create a world full of love for their children and guide them every step of the way.
These are the 4 main types of parenting:
Authoritarian parenting
Authoritarian parents are often called disciplinary. With strict rules that are often not explained to the child, communication is usually one-way (parent-to-child only). Discipline is the priority of authoritarian parents, therefore they have a less loving parenting style that often involves punishment. They have high expectations of their children and offer little to no flexibility.
Uninvolved parenting
As the name suggests, parents with this style show little involvement in their children and practically let their children do whatever they want. There is little communication between the parties, less affection on the part of the parents and a lot of freedom for the children and no particular style of discipline is used. Some parents choose this parenting style consciously, but most uninvolved parents generally lack information about parenting and don’t know what to do.
Permissive parenting
Also known as forgiving parenting, parents who practice this style see themselves as their children’s friends rather than as an authoritative figure. While they are warm and caring and communication is open, they offer little guidance and direction to your child and allow him to make decisions for himself. Permissive parents generally do not set rules and have minimal expectations of their children.
Authorized breeding
Many people think that this style is the most beneficial for children. Authoritarian parents are loving and reasonable, and even if they set high expectations for their child, they offer flexibility. When it comes to discipline, the rules are clearly stated and explained to the child. Communication is very open between the parties and in a way that the young person will understand. Many children raised by authoritarian parents think for themselves and are self-disciplined.
Some parents strictly follow a particular parenting style, but many practice a combination of styles. Experts recommend not looking at each style distinctively, but seeing it as a continuum. Many parents also change their parenting as the child grows. So what parenting style do you identify with the most?
