The 8-megapixel giant: Samsung T929 memory
Launched in February, earlier this year, the Samsung T929 Memoir is a stylish camera phone from Samsung. It is one of the few phones that includes an amazing 8-megapixel camera as a whole. This high-end phone comes in a simple touchscreen slab design but rolls out into a very sturdy build. The metal work gives a nice feeling of strength. The display of this phone is a full size TFT resistive touch screen with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels and allowing 256K colors. The Memoir is the second Samsung device, after the Behold, to incorporate the TouchWiz interface. Since then, many other Samsung phones have included this easy-to-use, interactive user interface. It incorporates an accelerometer sensor that helps the automatic rotation of the user interface in portrait or landscape mode.
The Samsung T929 Memoir is a quad band GSM based device but it also comes with service support for the 3G network. As a result, high-speed download and data access are available through HSDPA. The contact management system is fully featured and the phone allows you to add up to 1000 contact entries in the phone book. The Memoir also supports SMS, MMS, email and instant messaging and also integrates support for Hotmail and Gmail applications. It has a virtual 12-key alphanumeric keyboard and a virtual full QWERTY keyboard on its touch screen. This is a Class10 GPRS and Class10 EDGE enabled device that comes along with a WAP 2.0/xHTML web browser, embedded HTML to give mobile internet access. It also supports Bluetooth to allow easy data sharing between compatible devices. In addition to a USB port, the device also comes with an A-GPS compatible GPS receiver.
However, the most important feature is the camera on the back of the Memoir. The lens cover automatically opens and closes while the camera is in use, giving you the feeling of using a dedicated digital camera. This efficient 8 megapixel camera also includes a 10X digital zoom along with an auto focus function and a maximum resolution of 3264×2448 pixels. A xenon flash is also included which is very useful when taking photos indoors or in low light conditions. The images produced come out with good reproduction of rich colors and fine details. The camera interface is optimized for touch and also includes smart features like geo-tagging, face and smile detection. Video recording is possible in QVGA mode at a rate of 30 frames/sec. The music player is also a healthy addition to the phone and music can be transferred by connecting the phone to Windows Media Player on a PC. Creating music playlists on the device is also possible. Music can be enjoyed by connecting the phone’s accompanying wired headset or played directly on the phone’s speaker.
Currently, the Samsung T929 Memoir is available in Black and Silver color schemes only. The standard 1000 mAh lithium-ion battery comes with a talk time of more than 5 hours, while the standby time offered is up to 300 hours. Other features that can be mentioned in Memoir include an organizer, a document viewer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF) and a voice memo/markup.
