The importance of education in today’s society

So, do you think EDUCATION is absolutely necessary in today’s society? Does being polite make a significant difference in someone’s life?

Education is the process of learning and gaining knowledge at school from a teacher, receiving knowledge at home from a parent, a relative, and even an acquaintance. Education is a key that allows people to move up in the world, seek better jobs and succeed in life. Education is a factor that affects the jobs people hold, their career advancement, the income they earn, and the degree they hold. The more educated a person is, the more prestige and power they have.

However, unfortunately we have places in the world, where not everyone has the opportunity or the possibility of receiving formal education. India is among the countries where there is a large population of illiterate people. Nearly 55% of the Indian population is illiterate. In part, because most of the country resides in towns and not in cities, where education is more prevalent. Most of the people living in the villages spend most of their time cultivating and harvesting their fields and do not consider it necessary to be educated to harvest their fields or perform household chores. Girls living in the villages marry at a young age and then take care of the family and do housework. According to Indian belief, girls are usually married at a young age and are advised to stay home and take care of the household instead of studying or working. That is the reason why many parents in India are worried about their daughter getting married instead of her education. I can give you an example in my own life. When I was in India, I wanted to get more education and fulfill my dream. Contrary to what society thinks, I wanted to pursue my career in the health field to serve my own community. The support of my family, especially my grandfather, gave me the strength to keep my dream alive. I was 18 years old when we moved to the United States, and the transition to a different country culturally, academically, and politically was not easy. I didn’t know what I could do with my life when I came to the United States. The transition was also difficult for my parents. The need to find a business, concern for my brother’s and my education, and adjusting to a new environment was definitely a challenge. After doing most of college in India, it was difficult for me to start over with my college education. My dad’s brother, who is a doctor, inspired me to keep my dream of pursuing a career in medicine alive. I started my education at community college, where I struggled with most of my classes in the first year as the educational system was different than what I was used to. I joined clubs and other organizations in college to learn more about medical careers. I gained the knowledge I needed to pursue a career in medicine, but still, I had never experienced what things are like in the real world of medicine. I have done everything I can to help me fulfill my dream. I am currently an Emergency Medical Technician and enjoy working in the health field.

I believe that being educated is the most important thing not only for success in one’s life, but a better educated population plays a big role in making a nation more successful and complete. Getting formal education is vital, but to achieve success in life, informal education is essential. One can learn English, history, math, science at school and be “book smart”. Additionally, one can learn to live life by knowing what to say when, acting a certain way in a specific situation, and being “street smart.” You may have all the “book” knowledge in the world about a certain profession, but if you don’t know how to behave with your colleagues and your superiors, having “book” knowledge won’t get you very far. For example, if you are a Doctor by profession, you have all the knowledge about the world of medicine and you know a lot about health care, but if you do not have good manners and do not interact well with your patients, co-workers. , and the team, so what’s the point of having all the “book” knowledge. Achieving success in life and reaching a point in life where people respect you for who you are is what makes the difference, because at that point you excel in both formal and informal education. Education is very important and no one should be deprived of it.

“No nation can leave its security only to the Police and the Army, to a large extent national security depends on the education of citizens, their knowledge of the issues, their character and sense of discipline and their ability to participate effectively in the security measures”. – Kothari Commission

A well educated population represents a well secured, well developed and strong Nation.
