There is no such thing as a healthy snack

“According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Continuing Surveys of Food Intake of Individuals, 90% of the increase in Americans’ calorie intake since 1977 has come from of an increase in food consumption between meals. Calories consumed at meals have remained more or less the same.” – Reinhard Engels

If you were to look for a single factor that has led to the worldwide fat explosion, you may not have to look any further than the above statistic. According to this source, 90% of the increase in calorie intake over the past 30 years (around the same time frame as the dramatic rise in obesity) has come from increased snacking. In other words, the most significant behavior that seems to have caused the fat is snacking.

Snacking is a very new phenomenon and boy is it making people fat. People often say that the cause of obesity is an overabundance of food or an overabundance of sugar in those foods. But the generations before us had the same or very similar conditions, and they did not get fat. However, the big difference between the generations is the pecking.

There is no such thing as a “healthy” snack.

Let me point this out to you now. Snacking is gluttonous behavior unless, of course, you’re an animal designed to graze. A cow would be an example. But humans are not cows. We are not pasta. We are intermittent eaters. We are supposed to eat one meal and then stop until our next meal. This is how we are designed.

For the past 30 years, we have been cheated out of this natural rhythm by the advent of “healthy” snacks. We should snack, the food industry tells us, because they are good for us and will make us healthy.

What complete and utter nonsense.

First of all, there are no “healthy” foods in nature. Either there is food you can eat, or there is food you can eat. We learn very quickly which is which and any food you can eat is good. The term “healthy” food is simply a marketing gimmick that has no meaning.

We live in an age of manufactured non-food products. The manufacturers of these non-food products have played a trick on us and have made these non-food products very attractive. They fill them with specific additives and chemicals that attack our brain’s pleasure centers, disguising the fact that they’re not food at all and making us scramble for more.

But they’re not food at all, and labeling them “healthy” is just a ploy to get us to eat them. And works.

Not only is there no such thing as a “healthy” food in nature, there is also no such thing as a “snack.” Food must be gathered, hunted, prepared, cooked, and finally eaten. This process requires time and effort. Snacks don’t even enter the equation. It is unheard of, and so much so that in France the word for snacking is “le snacking”.

Only in the last 30 years have snacks been introduced. It’s true that the world has an overabundance of food, so what’s the easiest way to get people to eat it? Make snacking between meals trendy. How is it fashionable to eat? Call it healthy. The result? much more consumption.

BINGO!

BUT, there is no such thing as a healthy snack. Don’t think that eating “healthy” veggies, fruits, nuts, or bars between meals is good for you. It is not. It’s gluttony at the highest level no matter what you’re eating. If you’re a baby then it’s forgivable, but other than that it’s just a first class ticket to fat land.

Do not be silly. You’re not supposed to eat between meals. If he does, he is being tricked into doing it. As the saying goes “fool me once, embarrass me, fool me twice, embarrass me”. Kick the snacking habit and go back to eating like a proper human being.
