This is how a healthy gamer can be

Games once took the world by storm and have remained a constant source of attraction, and even obsession, for many people. While everything is good in moderation, how do you satisfy your desire to play continuously and still stay healthy? Read on to find out how.

• Know how to put first things first: Games only become unhealthy when they begin to creep in and disrupt other areas of your life. No matter how intense your gaming addiction is, it can remain a healthy passion rather than an unhealthy obsession, as long as you are clear about your priorities. Certain things like family and friends, a full-time job, and health should never be compromised.

• Take care of your body: you can remain a healthy player as long as you don’t let your passion divert you from your schedule. Playing late into the night, or until dawn, can be acceptable from time to time. However, when that becomes the norm and you start to bypass your healthy habits to continue playing, that spells trouble.

• Be an active player: this is a very important technique. Playing on your consoles for hours on end can lead you to fall into the trap of leading a sedentary lifestyle. While it’s good for gaming to keep your brain active, staying physically active is also essential. This can be achieved by taking short breaks at regular intervals and using them for a walk or a couple of exercises.

• Stand tall – While most games played on the computer require the player to be seated, it would be fun to try playing with consoles so that you can stand while you play. This is an exercise in itself. Also, you can move your feet in this way to stay physically active when you are playing serious.

• Drink for the game – Of course, we don’t mean alcohol! It would be a healthy practice to watch your body’s fluid requirements by drinking water at regular intervals when playing games. Fresh juices or other healthy drinks are also a good option. This, instead of the common potato chip and fast food junk we normally opt for, will propel you on your journey to being a healthy gamer. It is one of the important things to remember.
