What is the largest ski resort in the US?

Skiing and snowboarding are very popular sports and they really do offer a great break from the winter blues. Ski season in the US generally lasts from mid-November to mid-April, depending on the resort and weather conditions. All ages can enjoy this sport and you will see young children at octogenarian ski clubs on the slopes. There are so many ski resorts in the US that it can be difficult to choose which one to visit. Yes, there are big names like the world-famous Vail & Aspen resorts, known the world over as great ski areas, and for good reason.

But do you know which is the largest ski resort in the United States? Major changes are taking place and the largest ski area in the US is now Park City Mountain Resort.

The ski resorts that operate the gigantic Vail resorts took over Park City, after it was already operating next door to the Canyons Ski Resort. These 2 fantastic ski resorts are combining to make a giant ski resort called Park City Mountain Resort. The biggest investment is adding a new “interconnect” gondola to connect the 2 resorts between the Silverlodge elevator in Park City and the Flatiron elevator in Canyons. In addition to this new lift, there will be major improvements to the Kingcon chairlift, changing it to a 6-person high-speed detachable chair and increasing capacity. The Motherlode lift is being upgraded to a 4 person high speed detachable lift from the old fixed grip chairlift, making it easier to access the slopes.

From the new interconnecting gondola, skiers and cyclists will be able to unload at the top of Pine Cone Ridge (snow conditions permitting) and ski or board up Thaynes Canyon. There will also be new tracks from Pine Cone Ridge to the Canyons Iron Mountain area.

So if you love skiing, there will be a lot to ski on this mountain. The new ski area will have 7,300 acres of terrain, larger than Vail and will have a wide variety of runs from green for beginners to intermediate blue runs and black areas for experts. The total combined elevators will span nearly 23 miles and the vertical elevation will amount to 34,400 feet. In total, there will be 17 peaks to descend, after seeing the views from the top, of course. The 14 bowls will be a powder snow heaven, and this area of Utah, USA, gets 355 inches of snow on average per year after all, so the chances of some epic newbies are high. Over 300 ski slopes and over 150 park features will be marked for those who love to strut in terrain parks. 8 half tubes, including the super tube, will also be ideal for those who love the air.

The entire complex will be called Park City Mountain Resort and will continue to be connected to the city of Park City and historic Main Street via the Town Elevator. The old canyon town is being renamed as the canyons base area in Park City, but the ski slopes leading out of town will all be part of the Park City Mountain Resort.
