WoW Rogue Talent Specs Guide for Wotlk (All Three Talent Trees)

Rogues can spend their talent points in three talent trees: Combat, Assassination, and Subtlety. Below is a list of the three talent trees and the advantages and disadvantages of each to help you decide which talent tree to put your talent points into to get the best rogue for your playstyle.

or fight

– The main focus of the Combat talent tree is to improve the rogue’s ability to deal as much damage as possible as quickly as possible. Unlike the Assassination talents, which depend on the rogue’s position in relation to the mob or the enemy, the Combat branch does things with a little less finesse. This is the tree to focus on if you want to improve your weapon damage and speed it up.

or murder

– Assassination talents focus on dealing large amounts of burst damage instead of increasing the rogue’s DPS like the Combat tree does. It will still give a sizable boost to the rogue’s damage, but an Assassination build will do less DPS than a Combat build. Assassination builds, as the name suggests, are great for ambushing other players, therefore they are great for PvP.

Subtlety

– Instead of choosing DPS or burst damage, a Subtlety build will allow a rogue character to rack up combo points as quickly as possible, leading to some devastating finishing moves. Combo points are awarded through special fighting maneuvers learned by rogues. The amount of combo points that add up for a certain mob will make it possible to use finishing moves like Eviscerate or Shiv. With a subtle build, the basic idea is to get a couple of combo points in one or two moves, and then make the finishing move of your choice.
