The most commonly used chef hats are white. However, the latest market shows some fashion designer hats that come in different shades like black, grey, checkered, red, blue and others. Blacks and squares are gaining sales in the market compared to traditional whites.
Other models would include black with checkered borders or white with black or checkered borders. Red chef hats are also all the rage in today’s market. The colored hats are mainly available in the cloth variety as opposed to the disposable paper type. Colorful cloth chef hats are made from cotton or a cotton blend material that can starch and stiffen while still being comfortable to wear.
The colorful chef hats are available with adjustable elastic or Velcro straps, and have a comfortable built-in sweatband. Polyester chef hats are now manufactured to give a sharper look than cotton ones. Also, chef hats made of polyester or polyester blend are easier to maintain than traditional cotton chef hats.
Although more and more chefs wear black chef hats, the head chef is still seen wearing a white hat. All other chefs, cooks and others who work in the kitchen are in for a game changer from colored chef hats. Black chef hats are also available in different styles such as the base ball variety, crop top hats and more, changing the trend of chefs who wear only full length hats with pleats.
Most chefs prefer black colored chef hats these days as the color tends to hide all the sweat and other splattered stains on the hat. Also, since it’s a polyester blend, it tends to wick a lot more sweat than disposables. Since they are available in a wide range of patterns, a departure from the original plated style, more and more restaurants are preferring their chefs to switch to colored hats instead of the traditional white.
Although a full black hat can look very different from a traditional white chef’s hat, white hats bordered or checkered with black tend to make a distinctive change in tradition. They would also not be that different in styles and could only be changed in color for that unique touch of difference.
