Business Games: Team Building and Useful Business Skills

Business games are used by corporate entities to teach some basic teamwork skills to their employees. One of the most important things cited by Fortune Five Hundred companies is the ability of their employees to be able to work as part of an effective team. Using business games can teach employees how to be a productive part of a team. These types of games can be a great way to relax everyone and get them to really engage and interact with each other in a positive environment.

Often, large corporations send their employees on retreats where everyone spends the weekend together having fun and getting to know each other. During these retreats employees are encouraged to participate in team building activities.

Trainers

Some companies bring in trainers instead of sending their employees on retreats. All employees come together and participate in symposiums and conferences given by coaching professionals who institute business games as a learning model to teach new business model theories and ideas.

The goal is to make the experience enjoyable while teaching employees a new concept. The games are not usually very competitive, but are geared towards facilitating teamwork. A small prize is usually offered for successful participants.

These trainers are paid large sums of money to help struggling companies recover.

types of games

The games that are used can follow several different models. They can be presented in a game show type model where there are “contestants” who compete against each other with the help of their team. Some business games are more physical and require teams to get dirty. Some games are just video games.

In general, games, regardless of the model they follow, are rarely individual oriented, they are almost always teamwork oriented. They are a great creative way for people to get to know each other and learn how to work together effectively.

Game Goals

The goals of the games are to teach team pride and teach people how to trust each other for success. These are great learning tools and foster a sense of spirit and morale among team members. Some of the business games will turn supervisors into subordinates and subordinates into supervisors so that everyone has a chance to put themselves in each other’s shoes.

Business games are an effective way to allow employees to not only blow off some steam, but take with them a sense of team pride and some new knowledge.
