Do you want to follow that dream? Then set a goal and make it work

One of my favorite television shows, which I used to follow from its first broadcasts, was Project Runway. What I liked about this program was that it reflected tough challenges, prompting designers to develop pioneering ideas to be able to compete in a highly competitive market. With his famous motto “MAKE IT WORK” and “I need you to wow the judges”, Tim Gunn instills value in every designer, stimulating their creativity to the fullest. Entrepreneurs, in one way or another, have a plan or a goal that they want to acquire or achieve in life and their commitment and positive attitude push them to try to achieve it no matter what. This is all very well, but for other people, they may have a goal, but sometimes they can be their own worst enemy, presenting internal or external obstacles that may not even exist or are not that important. Some people underestimate themselves, underestimate their own ability to succeed in life and do not take the right paths, the ones that would lead them to fulfillment.

I am a woman with a positive mental attitude who fully agrees with Jack E. Addington that “Almost no goal is impossible to achieve if you can accept it as if it were within the realms of possibility.” Although I do not claim to be an expert on the subject of goal achievement, based on my personal experience, knowledge and study, I believe that I can be an influential tool in helping others find the way to follow their dreams, setting goals and making them work.

I have put together these thoughts, which I hope everyone, in one way or another, finds useful.

Set your goal and stay focused

This is extremely important. One must keep his attention focused on his purpose, whatever it may be. We need to be less intense and more relaxed during this process. Sometimes, in our desire to achieve a goal, we get impatient, we want immediate results, and when it doesn’t happen when we want it to happen, we get discouraged. For example, a seed planted in the ground does not become a tree overnight; it takes time and due care to produce the tree, and even more time and care for that tree to produce the desired fruit. Of course, in today’s ruthless business world, there is no such thing as patience; It all has to be done with the snap of a finger, due to the significant financial investments that are at risk. I only mean the person who wants to carry out his intention. From my experience, the only thing I have learned is that not everyone is as excited as you about your goals. Never assume that being a friend or relative will help. If it doesn’t fit in with your area of thought (often due to jealousy or control), then a negative attitude will be projected, which can influence your thoughts in one way or another, hitting all the air in your mind. cloth. Only if the project is part of a joint venture is it safe to talk about it; Otherwise, learn driving to keep your mouth shut, get the project done, and let the result speak for itself. When you are clear about what you want, don’t worry at all. Also, don’t keep going from one person to another asking for their opinion. If you expect a rousing ovation, or a “congratulations on you”, as they say, in New York, “Fugheddaboudit” … When you stay focused, on your goal, and maintain a positive attitude, you become a magnet attracting opportunities The right people, the right people, and the right situations – situations that will help you successfully complete your vision.

Never reject ideas or information

Hidden deep within us is an inexhaustible and inexhaustible source of innovative ideas. Musicians, authors, scientists, inventors, designers, artists, etc., over the centuries, have successfully harnessed and learned to trust and refine these ideas. Some will say that they are an illumination, an impression, a hunch or a divine inspiration, something that suddenly appears and goes just as quickly. Often times these ideas will pop into your mind when you least expect them, usually as soon as you stop looking for them. A person could be at work, driving a car, doing housework, on the computer, or even watching television when this happens. Memory cannot be relied upon when that inspiration strikes. In this way many brilliant ideas have been lost. That is why the creative person should always have their cell phone to text ideas or a notebook and pencil on hand at all times.

Several years ago when I was a composer / performer, I think you would have called me a scribbler. I always reproduced my thoughts on paper before they died. Many times I was writing the lyrics or the melody of a song, moving at a relative speed, when suddenly the source of inspiration seemed to run out, and no matter how hard I tried to resume the tempo, it disappeared. . I would feel frustrated and lost. Before going to bed, I would dwell on what I was trying to achieve at the moment when the flow of creativity had stopped. After a decent night’s sleep, I was expecting my usual steaming cup of coffee. Now that I was fully awake, I noticed that the thoughts I needed before going to sleep were running through my mind again. It was strange, as if there was some activity while he was sleeping. Naturally, the first thing I did was grab the pencil and notebook and quickly capture those thoughts.

You need to be versatile. When these ideas come up, don’t condemn or reject any of them because they don’t fit into whatever you’re doing, because it will cut off the flow of creativity. Sometimes, within the knowledge one receives, there are hidden clues like street signs that can lead to pathways that will lead you to achieve your goals. As they say, “The devil is in the details.” Save and write down all the thoughts that occur to you without eliminating any. Eventually there will be a time when you think to a certain level that you have enough thoughts or ideas in writing, and then you can be critical of what you want to use, removing or storing the rest for future reference.

Organize; create an outline

Creating an outline or plan is especially helpful in trying to achieve goals. It organizes one’s thoughts and ideas, thus establishing some order from chaotic perception or inspiration; otherwise one will be directionless, like a boat without an oar, drifting aimlessly, going nowhere. The designer makes a sketch of what he wants to reproduce in a life-size portrait. The architect has his plans. The writers have their sketches and research to guide them. As composers create musical pieces, they produce the progress of their thoughts on a sheet. Every creative person has some way of grouping their ideas or thoughts. When you open a book, there is a table of contents, where the author will guide you from beginning to end. When you finish reading, you will decide if it is a fascinating or boring book, the best seller or a book doomed to the bin.

This reminds me of my high school English teacher, whom I respected immensely. I still remember his face, but not his name. She always cared about her students and strived to bring out the best in them. As a class assignment, I had to give a speech. One part was performing artistically in the auditorium. I had developed confidence in this part thanks to constant rehearsals. It was easier for me compared to giving a talk based on my own original material. That wasn’t my cup of tea, especially with grammar being my ineptness at the time. The fear began to settle, both the fear of failure and the fear of being ridiculed. I knew I had to, because they were rating me in my speech. I shared my concern with the teacher. I must say it had a calming effect on me. She gave me some tips on how to complete the task. He told me to sketch my thoughts in the order I wanted to mention them. Then, if I am satisfied with the results, I should go through it several times so that it stays in my mind. So I should stand in front of a mirror and give my speech over and over again. He stressed that I should make sure my facial expressions harmonized with what he was talking about. Another thing he pointed out was that I shouldn’t read the words, but should look at the audience at all times, referring only briefly to my outline. The more he recited it, the more confidence he developed.

This was definitely an excellent stress tame experience for me. I must admit that the day I had to give my speech, I was a totally different person; my self-awareness had faded and my true self-confidence had taken hold. I’m happy to say that I got a pretty decent grade for my speech, despite my lack of grammar. Little did my English teacher know at the time how useful this information would be to me in my years as a composer and performer. Even as a website manager, creating an outline is very important for the viewer to find information or know what your website is about.

So my dear reader, the bottom line to all of this is that you MUST have unshakable faith. Never lose sight of your goal or stop being persistent, regardless of what happens. You must continue to have an unshakable thought that you will eventually succeed, despite all external setbacks and obstacles. Be a person of certainty of purpose and direction. This is one of my favorite quotes from Jack E. Addington:

“In order for you to achieve what you set your mind to, you must believe in everything you want to achieve, accept its possibility, and confidently wait for it to come true.

So why are you waiting? Go for it! MAKE IT WORK! Surprise everyone. Who are they to tell you that you cannot reach or find your way to your dreams? They don’t hold the map. You do … And that map will get you where you want to go if you take notes and chart a course along the way, that way, you won’t waste time going backwards down empty roads that you’ve been on before. You will see the path in the notes you have taken that will get you where you want to be.

Good luck!
