Do you want to sound as good as you look, or even better?

When it comes to image, everyone is concerned with how they look, how they project themselves, what they say and what they wear. However, few are aware that the sound of their voice when speaking represents a large part of that image. So my question is, do you like to hear your voice on your voicemail or on your answering machine? Most people don’t.

My second question is, if you knew that you have a great inner voice, would you be interested in discovering it? You probably don’t know that it has a better sound. It’s what I refer to as her “real” voice. Many in Hollywood work with voice trainers to find their special sound. And what they discover is something magical, almost mysterious because it is a sound that is richer, fuller, deeper in tone and makes a statement about them.

Imagine walking into a room and grabbing the group’s attention with just the sound of your voice. Imagine yourself standing at the lectern and wowing your audience with just the sound of your voice. Imagine talking to someone in a club and that person looks at you with obvious interest because of how warm and welcoming your voice is.

Do you think this is not possible? Think again. Those who have voices that catch your eye are the likes of Peter Coyote, Cher, Sean Connery, George Clooney, Diane Sawyer, and James Earl Jones. Not to be missed on this list is the late Barry White, a voice that was sultry and warm whether it was singing or speaking to him.

We all have a better interior, but to find out, you will need to use your chest to boost your sound because those deep, resonant voices that you find attractive are the result of chest vibration. Right now, I can tell you if you are using your chest sound or not simply by asking you a question. When you inhale deeply, you suck in your gut, push out your chest, and lift your shoulders. If you answered Yes, then your ‘usual’ voice is not going to typify those who speak in such glorious tones.

What do you need to do to find your “real” voice? Find the optimal tone or your spoken voice and let your chest do the rest of the work. This doesn’t mean that your larynx and larynx won’t be part of the process … it just means that they won’t work as hard, which will decrease wear and tear on those delicate organs. Also, the resulting sound will be much more pleasant for your listeners.

Imagine sounding even better than you sound just by discovering your “real” voice. Imagine being able to turn up your volume without yelling. Imagine being able to control those nerves when standing at the lectern, interviewing for a job, or approaching someone special at a club. In truth, your ‘real’ voice is just a breath away!
