The second largest city and coastal city in Kenya is Mombasa. Mombasa is located in the southeastern part of Kenya and has a great location as it borders the Indian Ocean. Mombasa is a vibrant city, rich in culture and history, and is built on an island linked to the mainland by two deep-water ports. It is home to the largest port in East Africa and is famous for its white sand beaches and impressive coral reefs in the surrounding waters and you can enjoy good weather all year round. Most of the beach hotels in Mombasa are located to the north and south of the city. Some of the best hotels can be found in the south at the famous Diani beach, as well as Watamu and Malindi located on the north coast of Mombasa and are famous for their white sand beaches. The best time to travel to Kenya is the dry season, from mid-July to early October. During these months, temperatures are milder and not as hot and humid as the peak tourist months (December to March, which are great months for snorkeling and deep-sea fishing). April through June is when the long rains fall and October through December is when the short rains fall, so it may be a good idea to plan your vacation around these guidelines to ensure optimal satisfaction.
