Fun things you can do with an old birdcage

If you’re like me, you have too many distractions in your house. Dirty socks hanging from your TV screen distract you from the football game, shelves and racks full of trinkets keep you from reading that book you can’t find, and old bird cages take up sleeping space and keep you from resting. . . If this sounds like you, it’s time to start using these distractions in a more positive way, especially bird cages. Bird cages can be used for many other things besides birds, check out my suggestions below.

1. Additional storage space. Depending on the size of your bird cage, you can use it for all kinds of storage. You can hang it in the closet and fill it with clothes or shoes. You can hang it in your bathroom and fill it with extra toilet paper or mouthwash and soap. You can even hang it in your garage and store unused tools or car parts.

2. House other animals in it. If you don’t have a bird, but perhaps have a pet gecko or gerbil, you could easily house them in your old cage. Just make sure it’s big enough for the animal you choose. Obviously, you shouldn’t try to push your 40-pound dog into one to sleep at night.

3. Decoration. If you have a very old, vintage-looking cage, use it as a decoration. It will look great in your living room, hanging proudly from the ceiling. You can easily paint it to match any decor and it will be an interesting conversation starter.
