Recognizing deception can save a marketing coach valuable time and energy

There are tell-tale signs that someone may be lying, and as a marketing consultant, learning to recognize deception before you go too far will allow you to cut them off.

That is how…

Not everyone is honest and direct with their intentions.

How can you learn to identify deception immediately? Let’s say you’re a consultant and you’re meeting with a client. Ask probing questions and get answers.

Are there techniques I can use to feel like the client is telling the truth?

There are some things you can look for.

If you are talking to someone who has something to gain by cheating on you, the moment they start cheating on you there are certain physiological signals that will alert you.

Your heart rate will increase, blood flow will go to your face and up through your nose and over your nose between your eyebrows. It will also go into your ears and you will literally see your face turn red.

It’s really amazing.

Another thing that happens when people cheat is that their pupils tend to get smaller as you look. That’s a really cool sign.

Why did this happened?

Generally speaking, when people try to take in their surroundings, their pupils get bigger. When people like you, their pupils get bigger; but when you are being deceived there is a constriction of fear. When you’re afraid, when you’re trying to think straight lies, for some the pupils get smaller.

It is something you can observe.

If you notice a person touching their nose or earlobe with their index finger or middle finger, those are the places that itch the most, when people have a lot of blood flow to their head.

What’s really interesting, by the way, is just hearing about cheating and thinking about cheating actually causing these physiological changes in people.

So anyone reading this right now is probably having an itchy nose and ear and probably scratching and poking with their middle or index finger. It is really an amazing phenomenon.

During a conversation, if you see that someone is using too much eye contact, is with you all the time, it is a good sign that something is wrong.

People usually worry when they are being evaluated or judged, so they tend to look away and look down.

But people who cheat on purpose; someone knocks on your door, looks at you with perfect eye contact for more than 75-85% of the time, you can usually tell that a good quality cheat is going on.

You may not be able to figure out what it is, but you can usually tell it’s there. There are other prompts, but these are some easy ones.

What you see is not always what you get, regardless of what the person says. By learning to recognize these physiological signs, you as a marketing consultant will be able to read your customers more effectively.
