The blind follow the blind
The fool follows the fool
But the knife, like ‘Pizarro’,

Following human nature…
And he ruled the Inca world!
Thus, Atahualpa was

The Black Legend
It is said that the Black Legend was the time of the conquerors of Peru, mainly those of Spain; I could say that this was a time equal to the Dark Ages in Europe. These poems are about the people who lived through this time; their written testimonies now tradition. The failure to defend Peru against the renewed forces of Europe was the doom for Peru. This period in the near past has been of little interest to many, but is now seen as formative history for Peru, rich and exciting for the reader. Ricardo Palma was partly my inspiration for this part of the book. Let me also add, this was the time of the Inca Empire, which maintained its supremacy until this very end.
