Things to know about online games

Online games are all the rage among kids today. For some, gaming may just be a weekend hobby, while for others it may be an addiction. Some children cannot go a day without games, and some may stop when their parents suppress them. Children become addicted to games for many reasons.

Addiction

The “high score” is one of the most attractive categories for children. They will try to beat their own high scores every time they play. Some games allow players to play roles. They have the opportunity to create characters in the game and embark on an exotic adventure. This makes them emotionally attached to the character. Discovering something is fun. The World of Warcraft online game allows children to explore imaginary worlds. Some children are more comfortable playing online games. Online role play gives them the opportunity to interact and build a relationship with other players.

Tips for parents

So how should parents treat kids addicted to online games? Here are some tips:

1. Assign a fixed time to play per day

Computer games shouldn’t make kids addicted. Do not allow children to play for more than one or two hours a day. Tell them the importance of spending some time studying.

2. Allow games to be played only after children have assumed their responsibilities.

Kids love to be hooked on games all the time, given the chance. Make sure they play only after they have taken care of their responsibilities. For example, you can set a rule that games should be played only after they have sincerely completed their homework. You can even tell them to play only after they have washed the dishes.

3. Divert children’s minds to other amusements

Playing games online is not the only source of entertainment these days. Make your children understand the importance of other games or physical activities such as walking, playing or running. While television is used as a babysitter these days, the same is true of computer games. Never let games dominate your children’s lives.

4. Never let your kids rule the chicken coop.

Parents must have the last word in approving any game. Don’t let your children rule your home by letting them play all the time. If given the opportunity, they will end up playing all the time. So use your discretion.

Always keep computers out of children’s bedrooms, preferably in an open space or in family rooms. In this way, you can control the play times of your children.
